19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Now training with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden championship since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive deciding set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
